Mandrake Root, Podophyllum pelatum

American Mandrake is a herbaceous perennial plant in the family Berberidaceae. Herbal extracts can be made to obtain Mandrake oil or the roots can be made into topical salves and ointments. Mandrake is also used in a variety of Spiritual practices and rituals.

NOTE: NOT FOR INTERNAL USE. All parts of the Mandrake Plant are toxic with the exception of the ripe berry.

Mandrake Root has been used as an herbal remedy for centuries. It has a variety of uses both as an herb, holistic medicine, pharmaceutical medications and as a spiritual tool. Popular for use in hoodoo, voodoo, wicca and various types of Magick. Used in Spells, Rituals and ceremonies.

Mandrake is often known as mayapple, or the umbrella plant. The Mandrake plants colonize from one single root so when you find one, you are likely to find a whole patch, with dozens of plants together. In early Spring the plant emerges with the leaves folded down and wrapped resembling an umbrella. They slowly unfold and as late spring approaches the plants that are older than 12 years will form one single flower that produces the famous edible berry, the mayapple. The berry needs to be fully ripe before eaten. It is highly toxic when unripe.
